A portrait of film director Carl Th. Dreyer (1889-1968), based on film lecturer Martin Drouzy's psychobiography 'Carl Th. Dreyer - born Nilsson', which was published in 1982. The story of Dreyer's life and career is narrated by Max von Sydow and supplemented with interviews and short dramatized scenes.

The film is a TV documentary in two parts. The Danish Film Institute only has part 1. It has not been possible to locate part 2.
